16:1 Now Sarai, Abram's wife, had given him no children; and she had a servant, a woman of Egypt whose name was Hagar.
16:1 亚伯兰的妻子撒莱不给他生儿女。撒莱有一个使女，名叫夏甲，是埃及人。
16:2 And Sarai said to Abram, See, the Lord has not let me have children; go in to my servant, for I may get a family through her. And Abram did as Sarai said.
16:2 撒莱对亚伯兰说，耶和华使我不能生育。求你和我的使女同房，或者我可以因她得孩子（得孩子原文作被建立）。亚伯兰听从了撒莱的话。
16:3 So after Abram had been living for ten years in the land of Canaan, Sarai took Hagar, her Egyptian servant, and gave her to Abram for his wife.
16:3 于是亚伯兰的妻子撒莱将使女埃及人夏甲给了丈夫为妾。那时亚伯兰在迦南已经住了十年。
16:4 And he went in to Hagar and she became with child, and when she saw that she was with child, she no longer had any respect for her master's wife.
16:4 亚伯兰与夏甲同房，夏甲就怀了孕。她见自己有孕，就小看她的主母。
16:5 And Sarai said to Abram, May my wrong be on you: I gave you my servant for your wife and when she saw that she was with child, she no longer had any respect for me: may the Lord be judge between you and me.
16:5 撒莱对亚伯兰说，我因你受屈。我将我的使女放在你怀中，她见自己有了孕，就小看我。愿耶和华在你我中间判断。
16:6 And Abram said, The woman is in your power; do with her whatever seems good to you. And Sarai was cruel to her, so that she went running away from her.
16:6 亚伯兰对撒莱说，使女在你手下，你可以随意待她。撒莱苦待她，她就从撒莱面前逃走了。
16:7 And an angel of the Lord came to her by a fountain of water in the waste land, by the fountain on the way to Shur.
16:7 耶和华的使者在旷野书珥路上的水泉旁遇见她，
16:8 And he said, Hagar, Sarai's servant, where have you come from and where are you going? And she said, I am running away from Sarai, my master's wife.
16:8 对她说，撒莱的使女夏甲，你从哪里来，要往哪里去。夏甲说，我从我的主母撒莱面前逃出来。
16:9 And the angel said to her, Go back, and put yourself under her authority.
16:9 耶和华的使者对她说，你回到你主母那里，服在她手下。
16:10 And the angel of the Lord said, Your seed will be greatly increased so that it may not be numbered.
16:10 又说，我必使你的后裔极其繁多，甚至不可胜数。
16:11 And the angel of the Lord said, See, you are with child and will give birth to a son, to whom you will give the name Ishmael, because the ears of the Lord were open to your sorrow.
16:11 并说，你如今怀孕要生一个儿子，可以给他起名叫以实玛利，因为耶和华听见了你的苦情。（以实玛利就是神听见的意思）
16:12 And he will be like a mountain ass among men; his hand will be against every man and every man's hand against him, and he will keep his place against all his brothers.
16:12 他为人必像野驴。他的手要攻打人，人的手也要攻打他。他必住在众弟兄的东边。
16:13 And to the Lord who was talking with her she gave this name, You are a God who is seen; for she said, Have I not even here in the waste land had a vision of God and am still living?
16:13 夏甲就称那对她说话的耶和华为看顾人的神。因而说，在这里我也看见那看顾我的吗？
16:14 So that fountain was named, Fountain of Life and Vision: it is between Kadesh and Bered.
16:14 所以这井名叫庇耳拉海莱。这井正在加低斯和巴列中间。
16:15 And Hagar gave birth to a child, the son of Abram, to whom Abram gave the name of Ishmael.
16:15 后来夏甲给亚伯兰生了一个儿子。亚伯兰给他起名叫以实玛利。
16:16 Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar gave birth to Ishmael.
16:16 夏甲给亚伯兰生以实玛利的时候，亚伯兰年八十六岁。
